TDL’s Drifting Weekend

It was a productive weekend for the participants and myself. Tough work for the team but we pulled it off. The Objective: Help our local drivers develop their skills, be it novice or expert drifters.

I spent most of Saturday teaching. There was a total of 5 participants, but Dinesh from CBT had to sit out by the 3rd training module due to a leaking head gasket.

I took the opportunity late Saturday afternoon to test out the 86. We made some modifications on the rear axle hoping to increase traction. Traction did improve but the 86 is so difficult to drive now due to the NOS setup. We’ve got to fix the excess fuel flowing to the combustion chamber when off the throttle.

Sunday’s “Professional Drift Session” was off the hook! We had a small group of drivers, no more than 12 cars. We spent the whole day attacking the course, working on initiation, angle and clips. The videos turned out ok as well, though there still loads of room for improvement. Thanks to the R/C Drift Crew.

Many drivers were skeptical about the point of initiation and entry angle, saying that it was not possible, but with some pointers and guidance, everyone was getting it spot on by the end of the day. I must say, Yoong from Team Dunlop was on fire! He was pushing that 32 Skyline to the limit!

I hope to conduct more sessions like this with the help of everyone, so that we Malaysians can practice and learn at the same time. Not just drift aimlessly!
